Police search­ing for man who stole brake pads from Pep Boys

Police are ask­ing for the pub­lic’s help lo­cat­ing a man who stole brake pads from the Pep Boys in Col­lege Square Shop­ping Cen­ter.

The theft hap­pened as the store was pre­par­ing to close at 9 p.m. Jan 19, ac­cord­ing to Sgt. Ger­ald Bryda, a spokesman for the Ne­wark Police Depart­ment.

The thief walked up to the counter with three pairs of brake pads, and the em­ployee be­gan scan­ning the items for pay­ment. When the em­ployee looked away, the thief grabbed the brake pads – worth a to­tal of $121 – and ran out of the store.

The thief was de­scribed as a white man with red­dish hair and was wear­ing a dark gray sweat­shirt with the Nike logo on it, blue jeans and a back­ward base­ball cap. He left in a dark sedan with what ap­peared to be Mary­land tags. Two other peo­ple were in the car.
