Ne­wark Site now part of Su­per­fund List

The U.S. En­vi­ron­men­tal Protection Agency (EPA) an­nounces the list­ing of the Ne­wark South Ground­wa­ter Plume Site to the Na­tional Pri­or­i­ties List (NPL), a list of sites el­i­gi­ble for long-term re­me­dial EPA will (cleanup) ac­tion fi­nanced un­der the fed­eral Su­per­fund pro­gram. This Site was pro­posed to the NPL in Au­gust 2017 and EPA held a pub­lic in­for­ma­tion session that same month. The next steps in the Su­per­fund process will be a full in­ves­ti­ga­tion of the Site and the con­tam­i­na­tion.

Com­mu­nity In­volve­ment – We want to meet you!

EPA will be pre­par­ing a Com­mu­nity In­volve­ment Plan (CIP), a Site-spe­cific roadmap to in­form and en­gage the com­mu­nity in the Su­per­fund process. To de­velop the CIP, EPA con­ducts com­mu­nity in­ter­views, in per­son or over the phone, with res­i­dents, lo­cal and elected of­fi­cials, and other stake­hold­ers to gather in­for­ma­tion, iden­tify key com­mu­nity needs, con­cerns, and ques­tions.
