First Fri­day Ride: Tonight, 5:30 p.m., at Ne­wark

Shop­ping Cen­ter. A ca­sual com­mu­nity bike ride spon­sored by Bike Ne­wark be­gins at the shop­ping cen­ter and trav­els through­out the city. Af­ter the ride, par­tic­i­pants will meet up for food and drinks. Par­tic­i­pants may park for free at the shop­ping cen­ter. Spring clean-out sale: Satur­day, 8 a.m. to noon, at

the Ge­orge Wil­son Cen­ter, 303 New Lon­don Road. The Ne­wark Parks and Re­cre­ation De­part­ment will host a com­mu­nity flea mar­ket. Ne­wark Sym­phony Orches­tra: Sun­day, 3 p.m., at

The In­de­pen­dence School, 1300 Pa­per Mill Road. The Ne­wark Sym­phony Orches­tra con­cert fea­tures guest per­for­mances by the win­ners of the 2017-18 Youth Con­certo Com­pe­ti­tion. Tick­ets avail­able at the door. Adults $25, se­niors $20, stu­dents $15, free for kids in eighth grade and younger. Plan­ning com­mis­sion meet­ing: Tues­day, 7 p.m.,

at city hall, 220 S. Main St. The plan­ning com­mis­sion will vote on a plan for town­houses on Benny Street and South Chapel Street. The His­tory of Her­man’s: Wed­nes­day, 7 p.m., at

the Ne­wark Se­nior Cen­ter, 200 Whitechapel Drive. The Ne­wark His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety’s an­nual meet­ing will fea­ture guest speaker Chris­tine Her­man, owner of Her­man’s Qual­ity Meats, who will talk about the busi­ness’ long his­tory in Ne­wark. Free and open to the public.
