First Friday Ride: Tonight, 5:30 p.m., at Newark
Shopping Center. A casual community bike ride sponsored by Bike Newark begins at the shopping center and travels throughout the city. After the ride, participants will meet up for food and drinks. Participants may park for free at the shopping center. Spring clean-out sale: Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon, at
the George Wilson Center, 303 New London Road. The Newark Parks and Recreation Department will host a community flea market. Newark Symphony Orchestra: Sunday, 3 p.m., at
The Independence School, 1300 Paper Mill Road. The Newark Symphony Orchestra concert features guest performances by the winners of the 2017-18 Youth Concerto Competition. Tickets available at the door. Adults $25, seniors $20, students $15, free for kids in eighth grade and younger. Planning commission meeting: Tuesday, 7 p.m.,
at city hall, 220 S. Main St. The planning commission will vote on a plan for townhouses on Benny Street and South Chapel Street. The History of Herman’s: Wednesday, 7 p.m., at
the Newark Senior Center, 200 Whitechapel Drive. The Newark Historical Society’s annual meeting will feature guest speaker Christine Herman, owner of Herman’s Quality Meats, who will talk about the business’ long history in Newark. Free and open to the public.
