Eastbound Christina Parkway to close for two weekends
A major road in Newark will be closed this weekend and next weekend.
Eastbound Christina Parkway (Route 4) will be closed between Elkton Road and South College Avenue from 7 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday and again from 7 p.m. April 13 through 5 a.m. April 16 to allow a crew to complete work on the bridges over Christina Creek and the railroad.
Workers will be making repairs to the structures’ expansion seals, backwall headers, milling and sealing the bridge approach slabs, according to Louise Holt, a spokeswoman for the Delaware Department of Transportation.
Traffic on Elkton Road will be detoured to Otts Chapel Road and then West Chestnut Hill Road in order to reach South College Avenue.
The closure was originally planned for last month but was delayed due to weather.
