Police: Man tried to return stolen items to Home Depot

Newark Post - - POLICE BLOTTER -

A New York man is in custody after trying to return stolen items to a hardware store in Suburban Plaza, police said.

The man walked into the Home Depot at approximately 1 p.m. March 4 and attempted to return $990 worth of window shades. An employee recognized the shades as having been stolen the day before and called police, according to Sgt. Gerald Bryda, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.

Officers arrived and took the man into custody. He gave police a fake Pennsylvania driver’s license, but officers eventually identified him as Jonathan Sanchez, 33 of the Bronx, N.Y., Bryda said.

Sanchez was charged with receiving stolen property, criminal impersonation and possession of a fictitious license. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $2,500 cash bond.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Officer Andrew Vari at AVari@ newark.de.us or 302-366-7100, ext. 3486.
