Newark man, 21, killed in motorcycle crash
A Newark man died Monday after crashing his motorcycle east of city limits, police reported.
The crash happened just before 1 p.m. on eastbound Del. 273, near the intersection of Ruthar Drive, said Sgt. Richard Bratz, a spokesman for Delaware State Police.
Elijah Green, 21, lost control of his Kawasaki ZX600P8 on a curve and crashed into a guardrail, Bratz said. The motorcycle’s front tire came off, and Green was thrown from the bike.
Green, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene.
Excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash, Bratz said.
Green was an officer with the Delaware Department of Corrections.
“The DOC Family mourns the loss of Officer Green,” a spokesperson wrote in a prepared statement. “He will be remembered as a professional and respected officer and an even better friend.”
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Master Cpl. J. Breen of the Collision Reconstruction Unit, by calling 302-3658486.
