First Fri­day Ride: Tonight, 5:30 p.m., at Ne­wark

Shop­ping Cen­ter. A ca­sual com­mu­nity bike ride spon­sored by BikeNe­wark be­gins at the shop­ping cen­ter and trav­els through the city. After the ride, par­tic­i­pants will meet for food and drinks at Ti­mothy’s of Ne­wark. Par­tic­i­pants may park for free at the shop­ping cen­ter. Mick­eyfest ben­e­fit con­cert: Tonight, 5 p.m. to mid­night, at Delaware Park, 777 Delaware Park Blvd.

Event will raise money for Mickey Mer­rill, a young Ne­wark girl bat­tling a rare ter­mi­nal ill­ness. Sev­eral bands will per­form, and food and drinks will be avail­able for pur­chase. Free ad­mis­sion. Bob­bies and Brews 5K: Satur­day, 8 a.m. at Olan Thomas Park, 89 Pa­per Mill Road. 5K race cel­e­brates the pop­u­lar Capri­otti’s sub and raises money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware. An after party at Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen fea­tures Bob­bies and beer. Reg­is­tra­tion $30 at fu­sion­race­tim­ Na­tional Night Out: Tues­day, 6 to 8 p.m., on Academy Street, be­tween Main Street and Delaware Av­enue.

Ne­wark Po­lice, Univer­sity of Delaware Po­lice and Aetna Hose Hook and Lad­der Com­pany will team up for the fourth year to pro­vide com­mu­nity mem­bers a re­laxed set­ting to meet first re­spon­ders. Po­lice and fire­fight­ers will give de­mon­stra­tions, and the event also in­cludes mu­sic, face paint­ing and a magic show. Of­fi­cers will be grilling hot dogs for at­ten­dees. Free. Sum­mer con­cert: Wed­nes­day, 6:30 p.m., at White Clay Creek State Park, 880 New Lon­don Road. The U.S. Navy Cruis­ers will per­form as part of the park’s weekly sum­mer con­cert se­ries. Free, but park fees ap­ply. Bat­tle of the Bars: Fri­day, Aug. 10, 5 to 8 p.m., at Court­yard Mar­riott, 400 David Hol­low­ell Drive. Eight Ne­wark bars will com­pete to raise the most money char­ity. Free. Artist re­cep­tion: Fri­day, Aug. 10, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Ne­wark Arts Al­liance, 276 E. Main St. A re­cep­tion will be held for The Lead­er­ship Show, an ex­hi­bi­tion and com­pe­ti­tion for mem­bers of the Delaware Foun­da­tion for the Vis­ual Arts. The ex­hibit will be on dis­play through Aug. 31. Free.
