Two hurt in early-morning fight on Main Street
Two people were injured when a fight broke out on Main Street shortly after the bars closed July 27.
A police officer on routine patrol spotted the fracas around 1:20 a.m., according to Sgt. Gerald Bryda, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.
The officer found a man lying on the ground bleeding near Caffé Gelato at 90 E. Main St., Bryda said. Another group of people were continuing to fight as they headed west down Main Street.
Two people, both 21-yearold men, were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries to their faces.
The initial investigation found that the incident started as a verbal argument and then turned physical, according to Bryda. Other details, including how many people were involved, where the men were coming from and what prompted the argument, were not available.
No arrests have been made, but officers are still investigating and talking to witnesses, Br yda said.
