Newark Post - - POLICE BLOTTER -

A Newark man is facing a DUI charge after he crashed his SUV into a utility pole Sunday, shutting down Ritter Lane for approximately 10 hours.

The crash happened just before 3:30 a.m., and responding officers found a single vehicle had crashed into a utility pole and snapped it in half, said Sgt. Gerald Bryda, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.

“The driver of the vehicle was not injured, and officers could detect that he appeared intoxicated,” he said.

The driver was identified as Ryan Cummings, 24. His vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage and was towed from the scene. Ritter Lane was closed so city crews could repair the pole.

Cummings was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving off of the roadway and no proof of insurance.

He was later released pending a court date in Newark Alderman’s Court #40.
