Newark Police are searching for three men who robbed another man and then ran over a friend of the victim after being confronted last week.

The incident began just before 9 p.m. Nov. 15 in the unit block of White Clay Drive, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.

The victim, 21, was walking down the street when a vehicle pulled up, and three men got out, Rubin said. With one holding a baseball bat, the men ordered the victim to turn over property, and the victim complied.

One of the men punched the victim in the head before they drove away.

The victim went home, and then he and a friend went looking for the robbers while also calling police, Rubin said. They confronted the robbers in an alley off East Cleveland Avenue.

The friend, 22, jumped onto the robbers’ vehicle but fell off. The robbers drove over the friend’s leg and hit a parked vehicle while fleeing east on Cleveland Avenue.

The original victim suffered a bruise on his head but did not need medical attention. His friend, meanwhile, was taken to the hospital to be treated for an injury to his leg, Rubin said.

The suspects were described only as three black men. Police did not release surveillance footage or a vehicle description.
