Ed­ward Joseph Sobolewski Jr.

— Ed­ward Joseph Sobolewski Jr. passed away on Satur­day, Novem­ber 24, 2018 at the age of 83. Ed was born in Philadel­phia, PA, on July 15, 1935 and grew up in Ne­wark, DE, where he at­tended Ne­wark High School. He re­ceived his un­der­grad­u­ate de­gree from the Univer­sity of Notre Dame and his law de­gree from Georgetown Univer­sity. Af­ter his ad­mis­sion to the Delaware State Bar As­so­ci­a­tion in 1962, Ed served as Deputy At­tor­ney Gen­eral for two years; he then had a suc­cess­ful pri­vate prac­tice, which he con­tin­ued un­til 1985. Upon re­tire­ment from the law, Ed be­gan de­vel­op­ing and build­ing com­mer­cial real es­tate in Ne­wark. He was both ac­knowl­edged for and proud of his nu­mer­ous con­tri­bu­tions to the city’s sub­stan­tial busi­ness and stu­dent hous­ing growth.

In the mid-1970’s, Ed formed a man’s bik­ing group known as the MUMS. Eight men would ride from Ne­wark to Re­hoboth Beach, DE, a one hun­dred mile trip, where they would play beach vol­ley­ball, ten­nis and golf. The MUMS still con­tinue to ride each year on the first Thurs­day af­ter La­bor Day.

Ed is sur­vived by his wife, Kay, with whom he cel­e­brated their 54th an­niver­sary last Fe­bru­ary; his daugh­ter, Kent (Edie); his sis­ter, Nancy; his brother, Mike (Jan), and their sons, Jeff (Heather) and Kenny (Mau­reen).

He spent his re­tire­ment years in Naples, FL, among many good friends.

Ed and his True Sto­ries and quotes will be missed by his many friends and his fam­ily.

Ser­vices will be held pri­vately amongst fam­ily at this time.
