2018 The year in review
The year 2018 saw conclusions to several long-discussed issues, with the passage of the capital referendum, the opening of the STAR Tower and the formation of the new Newark Partnership.
Meanwhile, new challenges emerged, including the University of Delaware’s abrupt decision to close the Christiana Towers, concern about the reputation of the Christina School District and a number of already-controversial plans for development projects.
Along the way, Newarkers said goodbye to several longtime businesses; welcomed new members of city council, the school board and the state legislature; and watched with joy as Preston’s Playground opened at the Newark Reservoir.
