Po­lice ar­rest swimmers at East Rock­hill quarry

It’s that time of year again. Dur­ing the sum­mer of 2006, Pen­nridge Re­gional Po­lice Depart­ment tick­eted 21 peo­ple in less than a wHHN IRr WrHVSDVVLQJ DIWHr fiQGLQJ the peo­ple swim­ming in the aban­doned Han­son Quarry in East Rock­hill.

Al­though the num­bers may vary some­what, there’s been a some­what sim­i­lar story each sum­mer.

In July of this year, the depart­ment made a to­tal of 35 sum­mary ar­rests.

“The ma­jor­ity of those, if not all, were tres­pass­ing ar­rests over at the quarry in East Rock­hill,” Chief of Po­lice David Met­tin said at the Aug. 22 Pen­nridge Re­gional Po­lice Com­mis­sion meet­ing.

Many of the tres­passers aren’t from the lo­cal area, he said.

“They come from all over,” Met­tin said. “It’s not lo­cal kids in the lo­cal wa­ter­ing hole. It’s kids from all over the place.”

It also takes a long walk to get to the quarry, he said.

“I don’t know what the at­trac­tion of that place is,” Met­tin said.
