Boy requires hospital visit following dog bite

- By Bob Keeler

Getting six stitches in his face wasn’t the end of the medical treatment needed for a 1-year-old boy who was bitten by a dog Sept. 15 in West Rockhill’s James Memorial Park.

“He aFWuaOOy KaG WR JR baFN LQ WKe hospital due to an infection,” PenQULGJe 5eJLRQaO SROLFe CKLeI DaYLG Mettin said at the Sept. 26 PenQULGJe 5eJLRQaO 3ROLFe CRPPLssLRQ meeting.

The child will also likely need to be treated to avoid the possibility of rabies, he said.

“Unfortunately, I think he’s probably going to have to get the shots,” Mettin said, “and that’s because we haven’t found the dog.”

The dog, described as black and medium sized, came from a wooded area near the baseball field, not from the dog park, police said. The dog lunged at the child and bit his face, then fled after the child’s father kicked the dog, police said.

Anyone with information on the

incident or a stray dog in the area is asked to call the police at 215-257-5104.

In another matter, negotiations have begun for a new union contract with the deSDUWPHnW’s RIfiFHUs.

The current five-year contract expires at the end of this year. That contract gave 3 percent pay hikes for the first three years, with 4 percent increases in the last two years.

Under that contract, the base salary this year for Dn RIfiFHU wiWh PRUH WhDn fiYH yHDUs’ HxSHUiHnFH is $70,514.12.
