Two killed in Silverdale accident

- By Bob Keeler

Mary E. Dodds, 49, of Damson Lane, North Wales, and Stacy Byrne, 32, of Prospect Avenue, Croydon, were killed in an accident in which Byrne’s vehicle was hit from behind by Dodds’ vehicle as Byrne was stopped for a red light on Barringer Avenue (Route 152) at Main Street (Route 113) in Silverdale about 5:20 p.m. Nov. 24, Hilltown Township Police Department said.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Ian Byrne, 34, Stacy Byrne’s husband and a passenger in the Byrne vehicle, was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

An investigation is continuing, but it is believed speed was a major factor in the accident, police said.

The Toyota Camry Dodds was driving was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Byrne, police said.

The force of the accident shoved the Cavalier across the intersection where it sideswiped a utility pole and hit a clothing collection bin, police said. The Camry continued across the intersection, hit a large rock, was vaulted into the air and hit numerous sheds at a shed business, police said.

The road was closed for about three-and-a-half hours following the accident, police said.
