Micro-brewery in the works in Bedminster Township

- By Bob Keeler

A new micro-brewery is being brewed up on Appletree Lane in Bedminster.

The brewery is allowed in the light industrial zoning district in which it is planned, but the owners also want to have a retail store along with it, so a list of conditions was given in order for Bucks County Brewing C Distilling to get a permit to build, Peter Nelson, Bedminster’s solicitor, said at the Bedminster Township Board of Supervisors Dec. 12 meeting.

“Most of these conditions were suggested to the township by the applicant,” Nelson said.

Under the conditions, retail sales and tastings must be within the hours of 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Private group tours of the site must be between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Special promotional events may be held indoors or outdoors.

“The outdoor events shall be limited to one a month and limited to two consecutive days,” Nelson said.

The outdoor special events will be allowed only between 1 and 11 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. A Temporary Commu- nity Event permit is required for each of the outdoor events.

No kitchen or food preparation area to make food for customers will be allowed at the business. Catering is allowed for the special events, with only prepackaged snacks and simple food allowed to be provided to customers at other times.

“The number of employees on the site will be limited to four,” Nelson said.

In answer to a question about whether the amount of water used by the brewery could deplete wells in the area, Nelson said public water systems are required in that zoning district, so the brewery will not affect wells. It also will not need a great deal of water, he said.

“It’s going to be very small capacity,” board member Glenn Wismer said.

“Emphasis on micro,” Nelson said.
