Pennridge’s Gerlach tops list of history-making athletes in 2012
2. Jason Deana (North Penn swimming) – North Carolina State got a good a one in the former Knight. In the spring of 2012 Deana dazzled at Bucknell in several events to help his team rack up the points and individually bring home a few medals. Deana anFKRUHG D WKLUG SODFH finLVK in the 200-yard freestyle relay and a fourth place finLVK Ln WKH 200-yDUG PHGley relay. Brandon Anders and Tomas Gimenez were also on both of those relay teams, while Jack Morris and Spencer Collopy got to stand on the podium as well. Deana capped off a great swimming career with the Knights in the 50 yard freestyle. His time of 20.59 was good enough for a silver medal.
1. Tori Gerlach
(Pen- nridge track) – For most people 3,200 meters is a hike and a half, but Tori Gerlach made it look like a walk in the park during her years running for the Rams. In the spring of 2012, the long distance runner went out on top as she won back-to-back state championships. The current Penn State student also won a District One gold medal in the 1,600-meter run. She battled past injuries, proved doubters wrong, and always was looking for a new personal best when she took her mark. Gerlach cleared every hurdle in 2012 and is the new standard for long distance running at Pennridge.
