News­day ends in-house print­ing

News­day ended its 77-year his­tory of in-house print­ing June 9, the paper re­ported. by e New York Times Co. is now print­ing and bring­ing News­day to Long Is­land from the Times pro­duc­tion plant in Col­lege Point, Queens.

Pub­lisher Debby Krenek an­nounced the ar­range­ment four months ago. She high­lighted News­day’s print­ing his­tory in a let­ter to em­ploy­ees rec­og­niz­ing their work. “ e pro­duc­tion of News­day has a distin­guished his­tory over the many years and var­i­ous lo­ca­tions,” she said. “ e one com­mon thread has been the ded­i­ca­tion of the men and women who made it all hap­pen.”

News­day plans to va­cate its rented cam­pus in Melville for an­other lo­ca­tion on Long Is­land. e new lo­ca­tion is not yet pub­licly known.

A num­ber of News­day em­ploy­ees and past em­ploy­ees gath­ered to watch the last news­pa­pers roll o the presses in Melville June 9.
