Caracas, Venezuela—protesters clashed with security forces on April 6 as opposition groups stepped up demonstrations against the Socialist-controlled government of President Nicolás Maduro. The unrest followed a Supreme Court decision in late March that would have resulted in the court’s takeover of the opposition-led congress. It was quickly overturned but was seen as another move toward dictatorship in a country paralyzed by hyperinflation and shortages of food and medicine.
