Venezuelan oposition leader and self-proclaimed acting president Juan Guaidó faces off with soldiers in riot gear before storming the National Assembly on January 7. Troops loyal to President Nicolás Maduro had tried to keep Guaidó out but were overpowered by his supporters, who swore him in as parliamentary speaker despite power being cut. It has now been a year since Guaidó declared himself interim president.
