“It’s an ancient problem, with a very obvious solution: give women full reproductive rights,” wrote Newsweek of a population explosion and insufficient birth control in Kenya. “It remains one of the most misunderstood aspects of international development,” due to “Western efforts to apply a coercive form of population control under the guise of ‘family planning.’” In Kenya, from 2015 to 2019, among the total of 2,380,000 annual pregnancies, 61 percent were unintended. This year, the Kenyan High Court affirmed women’s access to abortion. The decision is under appeal.
