Summer Celebration

Artists and dancers perform during the Qhapaq Raymi Festival, honoring the summer solstice, on December 21. The traditional celebration dates to the Inca Empire and included elaborate dances and prayers, plant and animal offerings and fermented corn beer. Today, many Peruvians have revived historic elements, and combined them with Christian features to start off their Christmas or Navidad celebrations.
