Heartland Artists Gallery

-

Since the 1970's, Heartland Artists Gallery (HAG) has provided the county with a way to display local artists' talent. Heartland provides support and encouragement to local and regional artists as well as a place to sell their art. It is a place to experience art in multiple media and encourage arts in the community they live in.

HAG artists contribute in various ways to the community as well. The Heartland Artists Gallery are behind the blueberry sculptures that are planted in the area and the majority of the blueberries were painted by Heartland artists. Local Painter and HAG Member Steve Weaver painted murals at Christo's Restaurant. HAG donates art to local businesses, one example of such art can be viewed at the Coffee Lodge in Plymouth.

The gallery recently held their annual ARTS in the Street Festival. They also will hold the Heartland Artists Pottery Exhibit on Sunday, Aug. 7, Friendship Quilters Guild Show on Sunday, Sept. 3, Heartland’s 34th Annual Juried Regional Art Exhibit on Saturday, Oct. 1, Tana Bondar: Ink, Colored Pencil Calligraphy and Pastel on Saturday, Nov. 5, and the Heartland Members’ Exhibit on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Heartland participates with other entities in the county as well as outside of it. They are in a regional alliance with other art galleries in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. This allows them to support each other and is currently working on developing a booklet that highlights the location of various galleries in the alliance.

Heartland has a plethora of volunteer opportunities that are available to the public. They work in a wide range of media including watercolor, oil, photography, glass fused to copper, fabric, pottery, jewelry and gourds. You can be a docent. A docent assists in the day to day running of the gallery, assist in hanging the shows, visit the gallery, frequenting the shows and receptions, assist with community events and/or fund raisers, and also teach a class at the gallery.

If you cannot donate your time as a docent, you can also donate money by becoming a sponsor or even donate an item from the Gallery's wish list of needs.
