Fun & Education Half-Day History Camp for Kids

Open to ages 6 to 12

- Berks County Parks and Recreation

Treat your kids to an exceptional experience of interactive programs that will open up their knowledge on three different aspects of early life in Berks County. Taking place from Tuesday, July 18 until Thursday, July 20, each day includes a lesson, games, crafts, and hands-on activities.

Students ages 6 to 12 will spend their three camp days exploring the Heritage Center and its surrounding area.

Tuesday, July 18, is Canal Life and Irish American History Day! Campers will learn about life of the families that lived and worked on the canals and why Irish Immigrants came to help build canals. Learn how to create a family tree!

Day two of the Half-Day History Camp features Art and Games of the Past. Campers will create their own petroglyph and learn how to do pin striping on a wagon. Try your hand at making a bean bag and playing old fashioned games.

The camp will come to an end on Thursday, July 20, with All About the Farm. Campers will learn about some of the many animals and various plants that were so important on the farm. They will also learn how foods were stored, prepared and ground into cornmeal.

Class size is limited to 20 campers ages 6 to 12. The cost of this wonderful program is $30 for all three days. Registration is required and can be completed by calling 610-3748839. The registration deadline is July 11.

The Berks County Heritage Center is located at 1102 Red Bridge Road (Reading, PA 19605) in Bern Township, below the Penn State St. Joseph Medical Center. For more information or directions, call 610-374-8839 or visit www.countyofberks.com/parks.
