Penn State Master Gardeners will offer a short Backyard Composting class as part of the monthly Evenings in the Garden program, June 6. The class will run from 6:15 till 7 p.m. at the Berks County Ag Center, and will include a visit to the composting area of the Demonstration Garden just outside the building. There is a $5 per head fee and seating is limited. Reservations are required by calling 610-378-1327.

The free Evenings in the Garden event runs from 6-8 p.m. and includes garden tours, and a chance to visit with Master Gardeners who will be tending their different garden areas. They will be able to describe what they are doing, how, and why, and can provide tips for better gardening. There is no admission fee for Evenings in the Garden, only for the optional Composting workshop. Visitors may drop in for a few minutes, or may choose to stay and learn over the two hours.

Among the garden areas within the Demonstration Garden are a rock garden, a native plant garden, vegetable garden, an annual trial garden, the Woods Edge Garden, an herb garden and several areas of larger landscape plants.
