Bereavemen­t Group: The Lutheran Home at Topton’s monthly bereavemen­t forum will host a free program on bereavemen­t at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker Kathleen Bohannon from SpiriTrust Lutheran of York will oversee the “Gift of Grace” game and a discussion on how to talk about end-of-life issues. The Diakon senior living community, 1 South Home Ave., Topton, hosts the bereavemen­t forum each month in Deibert Hall on the first floor of the skilled nursing care center on the Topton campus. Diakon Adoption & Foster Care staff will explain foster parenting as well as the processes involved in adopting a child. Tatting Workshop: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Road in Bern Twp. Cost is $10. Tatting“knot” a lost art! Karen Wattai, a self-taught tatter and member of the Lace Lovers of Lebanon, has years of experience teaching this versatile art form. A comparison of threads, needles and shuttle tatting will be discussed as students learn to make rings and chains resulting in a tatted bookmark. Village Volleyball: in the village of Huff’s Church (across street from Huff’s Union Church building, 540 Conrad Road, Alburtis). Every Wednesday from June 21 through Aug. 23 (weather permitting) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Relaxed recreation­al volleyball. Church provides the place, net, ball, cold water (bring your water bottle to fill) and bathrooms. All ages; minimum of 2 persons needed to start a game. If no one shows by 7 p.m., we will assume the evening is cancelled. Public is welcome.

Seminar on physician visits: The Lutheran Home at Topton will host a free public seminar on “making the most of your physician visit” at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 25. “Visiting your doctor should be a pleasant experience, free of fear,” says Connie Hartman of the Topton staff. “Our seminar will help you to take steps to ensure you’re prepared so you can make the most of your medical appointmen­ts and improve quality of care.” Event will be in the auditorium of the senior living community at 1 South Home Ave., Topton. Oley Valley Community Fun Day: Sept. 9 from 2-6 p.m. at Oley Valley Mennonite Church, 1571 Memorial Highway, Oley. Bring your antique tractors, cars,and garden tractors.
