Berks Parks and Rec offers Fly Tying Classes

- From Berks County Parks and Recreation Department

The Berks County Parks and Recreation Department will partner with the Berks County Fly Tyers to present a six-week session of beginner fly tying classes, starting March 6, at the Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Road, Bern Township.

The classes are designed to provide students with the basic knowledge of fly patterns and tying methods. Classes will run 7 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday through April 10.

There are a limited number of tying tools and equipment available for beginners’ classes. Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment with them.

The cost of the full course is $30 which covers the materials and club membership for one year. Pre-registration is encouraged by calling or emailing Jack Tucker at 610-777-0652 or jart3@verizon.net or Rich Shappell at 610-926-3076 or richa@epix.net. Class size is limited. Register by March 1. Any questions can also be directed to the Heritage Center office by calling 610-374-8839.

The Berks County Fly Tyers Club works with the county parks department on programs each year. The 501(c)3 organization has, among its missions, outreach to the community.

The Berks County Heritage Center address is 1102 Red Bridge Road, Reading, PA 19605. Entrance to the park is located at the intersection of Route 183 and Red Bridge Road (at Hoffman’s Garage and the entrance to the Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Bern Township).
