Jean-Baptiste scores 1,000th point in regular season finale

CONRAD WEISER 62, KUTZTOWN 50 » At Exeter Feb. 9, Alex MacKenzie led a balanced scoring effort with 16 points as Conrad Weiser held off Kutztown 62-50 in a Berks Conference quarterfinal.
Nathan Dobb finished with 15 points and eight rebounds and Alex Druckenmiller had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Scouts.
Lorencz Jean-Baptiste had a game-high 21 points for the Cougars (19-3), who led 15-8 after one period. Dane Fegely added 15 and Brayden Eck 12, but those three players scored 48 or Kutztown’s 50 points.
The Cougars, who went 10-0 in Berks III, turn their attention to the District 3 playoffs, which they enter as No. 1 seed in Class 3A.
KUTZTOWN 63, UPPER PERKIOMEN 58» At Kutztown Feb. 5, Lorencz Jean-Baptiste scored his 1,000th career point and the Cougars (192) held off the Indians (15-7) and unofficially clinched a PIAA berth in the process.
Upper Perkiomen, the Pioneer Athletic Conference Frontier Division champion, had a chance to tie it with a late 3-point attempt, but missed. Brayden Eck made two free throws with five seconds left to clinch the victory.
Jean-Baptiste scored on a three-point play on a steal and layup in the second quarter to give him 1,002 points. He finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds and has 1,011 career points.
Eck finished with 15 points for the Cougars, who led the entire game ... ahead 15-9 after a quarter, 33-27 at halftime and 45-37 entering the final quarter.
The victory virtually assures the Cougars a top two finish in District 3 Class 3A (they currently lead the power ratings). The top two teams in 3A receive byes into the semifinals and the top four finishers qualify for the PIAA tournament.
Ryan Kendra had 13 points, Sean Boyle and Will Walker each 11 for the Indians. Liam Boyle, who had a school-record 47 in his last game, was held to six points.
Girls basketball
TWIN VALLEY 55, BRANDYWINE HEIGHTS 14 » The No. 8 seed Bullets were overwhelmed by topseed Twin Valley in a BCIAA quarterfinal on Feb. 8.
Taylor Blunt hit from 25 points on 10-for-18 shooting and Peyton McDaniel added 12 for the Raiders (22-1).
Hannah Fenstermacher had a team-high seven points for Brandywine, which went 11-12 on the season. Fenstermacher averaged 11.5 points per game this season, followed by Skylar Miller at 8.7 ppg.
WYOMISSING 53, FLEETWOOD 24 » The Tigers (14-8) were unable to keep pace with Wyomissing in their BCIAA quarterfinal on Feb. 8.
Leah McAvoy scored a gamehigh 18 and Myra Owens added 13 for the Spartans.
Kayla Schlegel scored a teambest seven for the Tigers, which went 9-1 in Berks II and finished level in the standings with Berks Catholic.
For the season, Gabrielle Downs averaged 11.2 points per game and Chanel Vigro had 8.1

30» At Red Hill Feb. 5, Rachael McCoach scored 13 points, Selena White had 10, and Maria Marmarou added nine in the Cougars’ win over the Indians in their season finale.
The Cougars got to go out on a high note after enduring a 13game losing streak. Kutztown finished 5-17 overall. Leading the team in scoring were Gretta Bankes (11.9 ppg), McCoach (10.7 ppg) and Marmarou (7.5 ppg).

ANNVILLE-CLEONA 59, KUTZTOWN
24» At Kutztown Feb. 8, Justin Akers, Tyler Fisher, Nathan Raudenbush and Jake Sharadin scored falls for the Cougars (3-7), who were unable to overcome six forfeits as they fell to the Dutchmen.
Raudenbush had the match’s fastest pin, a 17-second drop in the 285-pound bout.
