DIS­TRICT TWP. » Po­lice have iden­ti­fied the vic­tim of a fa­tal crash in­volv­ing a Honda sedan and a dump truck.

Kelvin Baez 19, of Al­len­town, was pro­nounced dead at the scene Wed­nes­day, Feb. 14, af­ter po­lice say a Honda Civic col­lided with a dump truck in an early morn­ing crash.

Emer­gency re­spon­ders were dis­patched to the scene on Huffs Church Road at 6:55 a.m.

Eastern Berks and Se­si­holt-sville fire de­part­ments, along with Bally Medics ar­rived on the scene at the 900 block of Huffs Church Road in Dis­trict Town­ship. Penn­syl­va­nia State Po­lice from the Read­ing sta­tion were also on the scene.

Po­lice said that a Honda Civic sedan was trav­el­ling east­bound on Huffs Church Road while an un­loaded Peter­bilt dump truck was trav­el­ling west on Huffs Church Road. The Honda Civic crossed into the path of the dump truck, strik­ing it head-on, po­lice said.

In or­der to re­move the vic­tim from the car, a large wrecker from Berks Mont Tow­ing had to come and lift the front end of the dump truck, while a sec­ond wrecker pulled the car our from un­der the truck. Res­cue crews were then able to re­move a door to al­low the Berks County Coroner ac­cess to the driver of the car.

The op­er­a­tor of the Honda Civic, later iden­ti­fied as Baez, was pro­nounced dead at the scene by a deputy Berks County coroner.

The driver of the dump truck, Ed­win Doll, 51, of Leesport, was not in­jured, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

Huff’s Church Road was closed and traf­fic di­verted for more than four hours by fire po­lice from Eastern Berks and Seisholtsville.


The driver of this Honda sedan died af­ter the car crashed head-on with a dump truck on Feb. 14.
