Dance companies combine to perform a ‘Best of’ concert
The Pottstown Dance Theater Repertory Ensemble and Melange Contemporary Dance will collaborate this spring to bring “The Best of Pottstown Dance” to The Hill School Center for the Arts located at Beech and Sheridan streets on the campus of The Hill School in Pottstown. The dance concerts will take place on March 24 at 7 p.m. as well as on March 25 at 3 p.m. with both groups showcasing many of their greatest works from the last decade.
Choreography is based off of the ideas of director Michelle Jones Wurtz, but some has been adapted by long time dance instructor Diane Alex-Brody with assistance from Melange dancer Megan Schultz. Each group will present six independent works culminating in a finale that brought down the house twice at Carnegie Hall. Styles include classical ballet, contemporary ballet, modern dance, jazz dance, Irish Dance, African Dance and Native American Dance. There really is something for almost every taste and background.
The Pottstown Dance Theatre Repertory Ensemble (PDTRE) was founded in 2012 as a way for student dancers to receive more performance opportunities other than the standard end of year, recital type showcases. The dancers have performed at the Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and will join the world’s greatest athletes in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Melange was founded in 2009, originally as the resident dance company of the Steel River Playhouse. All of the Melange dancers have a college background in dance and most hold dance degrees. Both groups are under the direction of international dance artist, Michelle Jones Wurtz.
Tickets for adults are $18 in advance, ($21 at the box office) and $14 in advance for students and seniors ($17 at the box office). They can be purchased at the Pottstown Dance Theatre, 72 West Main St., Pottstown, 19465, by calling 610-323-2569, or on the web at www.pottstowndance.com.
