Berks trio makes U17 national team

After an extensive training camp March 9-11 in Winston-Salem, N.C., rosters for the U.S. U-17 and U-19 Women’s National Team were confirmed for their respective tours last week. The U-17 USWNT will venture to Uruguay from March 25 to April 4.

Three of the 18 selected to the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team hail from Berks County High Schools. Oley Valley sophomore Sarah Beers, Berks Catholic junior Isabella Bressler and Exeter senior Peyton Halsey were among those selected.

“We are excited for the tour to Uruguay,” said Jarred Martin, U-17 USWNT Head Coach. “The squad has been working hard during our training camps and improving on various aspects of the game. Now we will be able to put things together and see team USA against a great opponent. Uruguay has a strong hockey history with their skills and speed so it will be a fun series.”

Beers helped Oley Valley to a 24-2 finish this season, the Lynx winning the Berks Conference and District III championsh­ips before advancing all the way to the PIAA Class A semifinal round where they fell to Wyoming Seminary, 2-0. For the season, Oley outscored its competitio­n 144-19.

Bressler and Berks Catholic finished out the season at 19-5 overall. The Saints fell to Villa Maria, 9-0, in the second round of the PIAA Class AA playoffs.

Halsey led Exeter to a 12-7 overall finish. The Eagles fell to Oley Valley, 2-1, during the Berks County semifinals.
