Fleetwood Rotary Club honors membership’s commitment to service

- From Fleetwood Rotary Club

The Fleetwood Rotary Club recently honored their membership’s commitment to service above self at their annual Fireside Chat. During the past year, club members completed several work projects at the Hope Rescue Mission in which they installed wiring for an alarm system in the outlet store, sorted and organized display racks for a new second store location, winterized the fruit and vegetable gardens, and helped prepare lunch for residents. They also delivered for the Meals on Wheels program throughout the year.

In addition, thanks to the member’s fundraising efforts and a matching grant from the United Way, the club partners with Friend, Inc. to provide food for students in need. The non-perishable food is packed in bags by volunteers and delivered to the Fleetwood Area School District. Twice a month, thirty children receive the bags containing nutritious food for the weekend. Besides devoting their time, club members raised and donated more than $30,000 benefiting the following local nonprofit organizations: Fleetwood and Oley Valley School District Student Scholarships $3,000, Fleetwood High School Safe Graduation, Fleetwood High School Interact Club, Fleetwood Community Library, Friends of Fleetwood Library, Fleetwood Community Bus, Fleetwood Area School District Backpack Project $1,500, Fleetwood Borough Parks and Recreation, Fleetwood Fire Company $500, Bethany Children’s Home, Clare of Assisi House, Friend Inc., Safe Place, Potato Project, Wood to Wonderful, Rotary Farmers Night, and Rotary Camp Neidig.
