Historic Virginville farm hosts Spring Wildflower Walk
View dozens of varieties of wildflowers
On Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m., the Dreibelbis Farm Historical Society will host a Spring Wildflower Walk at the Historic Dreibelbis Farm in Virginville.
Dozens of varieties of wildflowers, many of which bloom for short periods are appearing in spring meadows, wetlands, and forests. Visitors may find plants like bloodroot, wild ginger, Hepatica, and Jack-in-thepulpit. Naturalist–guides for this walk will be Kutztown University professor emeritus, Dr. Frank Muzopappa, and Albright College Biology professor emerita, Dr. Susan Munch. Both have led previous events at the Dreibelbis Historic Farm.
Because this is a “walk on the wild side” of the farm, we ask that participants wear sturdy shoes. No flip-flops, please! The event is free to the public and will be held rain or shine — only thunderstorms cancelling. Parking is on-site and monetary donations will be gratefully accepted.
The Historic Dreibelbis Farm is located on Route 143 south of the village of Virginville. GPS Address: 356 Hard Hill Road, Hamburg, PA. To avoid roadwork that has closed Hard Hill Road (Rte. 143) at its intersection with Route 662 near the Moselem Springs Golf Club, folks coming to the farm from Fleetwood or points south should stay on Rte 662 West, then turn Right onto Forge Hill Rd., then Left onto Rte. 143 toward Virginville (just south of farm lane).
The Spring Wildflower Walk is an environmental/ educational event hosted by the DFHS, to fulfill their mission to preserve and protect the historic Dreibelbis farm and to make it available to the public. The seventh annual Historic Farm Festival will be held on August 25th.
