Kutztown senior Weber places 3rd at West Chester tournament

SHANNON WEBER (KUTZTOWN) » The Kutztown senior finished third out of 65 golfers to help the Golden Bears capture the team title for the third time in four years at the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell invitation­al April 9-10 at the Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester. Weber had rounds of 78 and 81 for a 159 total. She has now finished in the top three of the leaderboar­d in seven straight tournament­s including taking medalist honors at the Kutztown Fall Invitation­al in October and the Evann Parker Memorial in September.

HUNTER MEASE (KUTZTOWN) » The 6-foot-3, 215-pound junior right-hander has pitched in eight games with one start for the 8-13 Delaware Valley baseball team. He has no record and a 4.20 earned run average. In 15 innings, he’s given up 23 hits and 17 runs, seven earned, with seven walks and three strikeouts. Mease was solid in two recent efforts. He pitched two innings without a hit or a run in a 3-1 loss to Cabrini on April 4 and worked four innings, giving up two hits, one run, which was unearned, with two walks and a strikeout in a 6-3 11 inning loss to FDU-Florham.

BLAKE ROBERTS (HAMBURG) » Wesley College senior offensive lineman Blake Roberts was named to the 2018 National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society. Roberts was a captain and started all 12 games at center in 2017. Roberts helped pave the way for the best offense in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) with 5,295 total yards, including 2,477 yards on the ground. In his career, Roberts was a four-year letter winner and played in 31 games with 24 starts for the Wolverines. He picked up AllNJAC Honorable Mention honors and was selected to the College Sports Informatio­n Directors of America Academic All-District First Team in 2016.

A nursing major and multiple-time Dean’s List at Wesley, Roberts carries a 3.32 grade-point average. Roberts is a member of the Student Nursing Associatio­n, College Republican­s and the Leaders Empowering for Tomorrow. After graduation, he plans on becoming a nurse practition­er with a focus in Pediatric Cardiology.

The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers. An all-time high 1,251 players from a record-tying 302 schools qualified for membership.

JONATHAN BIEBER (EXETER) » Jonathan Bieber is doing a great job competing in the hurdles this spring for the Albright men’s outdoor track team.

Bieber, a 6-foot-1, 150-pound senior from Birdsboro (Exeter Township), captured the 110 meter hurdles in 16.08 and the 400 meter hurdles at the school’s Golden Wolves Open April 7 in Reading. He also finished eighth in the 400 meter run 52.84. On April 12-14 at Messiah’s Multi/Invitation­al in Grantham, Bieber was second in the 100 hurdles in 16.08 and second in the 400 hurdles in 1:00.98. He also finished seventh in the 800 meter run in 2:26.59).

Bieber finished first in the 110 hurdles in 15.56 and eighth in the 400 hurdles in 1:03.20 at the Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championsh­ips last spring. He has his eye on repeating that effort in the 100 hurdles and bettering his standing in the 400 hurdles when the championsh­ip is held May 3-5 in Chester.

XAVIER SMITH (DANIEL BOONE) » The Penn State senior sprinter had his best day of the season at the Battle on the Bayou on April 7 in Baton Rouge, La. He finished third of 11 runners in the 100 meter dash in 10.45 and third out of 17 in the 200 meter dash in a wind-aided time of 20.96. Smith also ran legs on the 4x100 relay which finished second in 39.91 and third in the 4x400 meter dash in 3:14.21. He finished 10th in the 100 in 10.46 and seventh in the 200 in 20.99 at the Florida Relays on March 29-31 in Gainesvill­e, both meets were competed against some of the top athletes in the east.
