Edward Gillett

Artist

-

Edward Gillett is an American artist producing large paintings and works on paper in chalk pastel that depict abstract figures in the backdrop of professional wrestling.

Growing up in the 90’s, Gillett was influenced heavily by pop culture hits such as Power Rangers, Marvel’s XMEN the animated series, and the world of professional wrestling. The flashy costumes, bright colors, patterns, physicality, “reality”, and teamwork displayed in each are all themes that found their way into Gillett’s work.

While obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in drawing from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Gillett became heavily influenced by the dynamic composition of Italian renaissance paintings. This new interest in composition, as well as the Christian depictions mixed with his love for the pop culture influences above became subject matter for his work. During this time Gillett began training as a professional wrestler, a 15 -year career that would be the driving theme behind all of his artwork. Gillett has been selling artwork directly at wrestling events he attends, and by commission. He was awarded the Pastel Society of America award at the 37th Annual York Art Association’s Juried Exhibition. Gillett currently resides in Hamburg, PA and has been seen religiously at the pool with his 6year old son, Patrick.

His work is on display and available for purchase at the Art & Craft Gallery in Hamburg, 320 State St., Hamburg.
