Woman shot inside Bern Twp. hotel
A 25-year-old woman was shot inside a Bern Township hotel early Dec. 3, Berks County detectives said.
About 2:10 a.m., Berks 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report of a shooting inside Econo Lodge Inn & Suites, 2017 Bernville Road, Chief County Detective Michael J. Gombar said.
Bern police responded along with officers from surrounding departments.
Police located the victim, who suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound inside a guest room.
Emergency medical personnel treated the victim at the scene and transported her to a local trauma center. Information on her condition was unavailable.
County detectives were called to the crime scene along with members of the district attorney’s forensic services unit.
No arrests have been made,
Lt. Harold Shenk of the county detectives said around mid-morning.
Shenk said investigators were still waiting at the time for a search warrant to be signed to process the crime scene.
They were also in the process of trying to determine if others besides the shooter were in the room, and if they were, to locate them and bring them in for interviews.
Bern Township police Chief Wesley Waugh declined to provide further details, saying the investigation is ongoing and that the district attorney’s office will be the agency releasing the information.
Waugh said, however, that the community has nothing to worry about be
cause “it was not an act of random violence.”
