Ruth Hofmann Grubb
On December 23, 2020, Ruth Grubb, former long-time Boyertown resident and wife of Dr. Willard Y. Grubb, passed away peacefully at Sherwood Oaks retirement community in Cranberry Township, PA where they had relocated in 2002. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Frederick W. Hofmann and Emily (Myers) Hofmann. Ruth was raised in Coatesville and York, PA. She attended York County Academy, York Junior College and graduated in 1945 from Ohio Wesleyan University with a BA in Chemistry. She gained employment as a graduate assistant at the University of Pennsylvania followed by work in the biochemistry lab at Jefferson Medical School where she met Bill Grubb of Mt. Penn, Pennsylvania. They married in August 1948 and settled in Boyertown where they lived for the next 50 years. In retirement in Boyertown they enjoyed many trips to countries around the world. They became active in People to People exchanges and Sister Cities International where they were honored for organizing humanitarian medical donations for a small city, Bogodukhov, in the Ukraine.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006. She is survived by John (Trish) Grubb of Lower Burrell, PA; Bob (Suzan Lami) Grubb of Pittsburgh, and Kathy (Tim) Sheehan of Montville, NJ; seven grandchildren (Richard Grubb, William Grubb, Alex Grubb, Gina Fisher, Colin, John and Anthony Sheehan); seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
