Man faces murder charges in road rage stabbing
A 29-year-old Pottsville man faces murder charges in the the stabbing of an Orwigsburg man during a road-rage incident Monday night on Route 61 in southern Schuylkill County, authorities said Tuesday, April 13.
State police at Schuylkill Haven charged Tamiir I. Whitted with first- and third-degree murder, aggravated assault and related offenses late Monday, April
12. He was arraigned before District Judge James Reiley on Monday night and committed to Schuylkill County Prison. First-degree murder is not a bailable offense in Pennsylvania.
Investigators gave the following account:
Troopers from the Schuylkill Haven barracks were dispatched Monday at 2 p.m. for reports of a stabbing near Route 61 and Brick Hill Road in West Brunswick Township, near Orwigsburg.
George Marcincin, 38, was found lying in the road.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Schuylkill County coroner’s office.
Whitted had fled the scene, driving away in a silver Honda Accord. A vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s was pursued by Orwigsburg police and stopped on Route 61 between Holly Road and Chestnut Ridge Drive.
Whitted was taken into custody and transported to the state police station at Schuylkill Haven.
Schuylkill Haven and Penn State Schuylkill police departments also helped to apprehend him.
Through interviews and investigation, it was determined the road-rage incident occurred as Whitted and Marcincin were traveling south in separate vehicles on Route 61.
Both got out of their vehicles and engaged in a physical confrontation.
Whitted produced a knife and stabbed Marcincin multiple times.
State police are continuing the investigation, and anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Schuylkill Haven station at 570-385-9111.
