KU names provost and vice president for academic affairs
Dr. Lorin Basden Arnold has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at Kutztown University, the school announced.
Beginning June 28, Basden Arnold will serve as the university’s chief academic officer and as a member of the president’s cabinet.
As the university’s main advocate for student success and the pursuit of academic excellence, she will oversee educational, technological and research initiatives throughout the division of academic affairs.
“The selection of Dr. Basden Arnold is an ideal match for Kutztown University,” said Kenneth S. Hawkinson, university president. “Her solid mix of experience as a dean and provost, and her impressive credentials as a teacher and scholar, will be highly beneficial to our campus.”
Basden Arnold comes to Kutztown from SUNY New Paltz in New York, where she served as provost and vice
president for academic affairs and a professor of communication studies.
“I am truly thrilled to be joining Kutztown, a university that has utilized its more than 150-year history to build excellence in a liberal arts education helping students prepare for success in their personal, professional and civic lives,” Basden Arnold said. “As a first-generation college student who attended a state school and has spent decades of service at state-supported schools, I have a real appreciation for the work that Kutztown does to support diverse student populations as they work to reach their potential.”
Before SUNY New Paltz, Basden Arnold was dean of the College of Communication and Creative Arts at Rowan University, Glassboro, N.J.
She holds a doctorate in interpersonal communication, a master’s degree in public affairs and issue management and a bachelor’s degree in communication/public relations, all from Purdue University.
