The Baltimore Orioles made history Friday when they announced the hiring of Adrienne Roberson as the first female public address announcer in team history.

Roberson, whose maiden name is Williams, graduated from Wyomissing in 1993.

She is the fourth active female PA announcer in the major leagues, joining Renel BrooksMoon

of the San Francisco Giants, Marysol Castro of the New York Mets and Amelia Schimmel of the Oakland Athletics.

“This is a dream come true, and I am honored to be the next voice of Oriole Park at Camden Yards,” Roberson said in a statement released by the Orioles. “To be able to cultivate my passion, bring my voice to our historic ballpark, and announce the same player I saw come through our minor league system as they now make their way to Oriole Park at Camden Yards is incredibly exciting. I know the future of Birdland is very bright.”

Roberson is quite familiar with those young Orioles as she has spent the previous 17 years as the PA announcer for the Bowie Baysox, Baltimore’s Double-A affiliate. She also has made several appearances as a guest PA announcer for the Orioles, including Mother’s Day weekend for the past five seasons.

“We are excited to have Adrienne assume the full-time role as the voice of Oriole Park,” said Greg Bader, the Orioles senior vice president, administration and experience, in a press release. “After working several Orioles games over the past 10 seasons and serving as the voice of the Baysox for nearly two decades, she is familiar with our players throughout the entire Orioles system, and we are proud to now regularly feature her voice, one that many of our fans already know and love, on a nightly basis.”

In addition to her duties with Bowie, Roberson has spent the last eight years as the public address announcer for Georgetown University, working men’s lacrosse, softball, soccer and volleyball games. She also spent two years as the PA announcer for the Double-A Knoxville Smokies.

Roberson received a bachelor’s degree in communication, broadcasting and sports management from the University of Tennessee in 1997.
