Firefighte­r injured in crash

A firefighte­r from Walnuttown Fire Company suffered minor injuries when the tanker truck he was driving rolled over after it collided with a tractor-trailer in Maidencree­k Township Wednesday afternoon, April 29, police said.

Northern Berks Regional Police said the driver of the fire truck was taken to Penn State St. Joseph hospital to be evaluated.

There were no other in- juries, police said. According to police: The Walnuttown Fire Company tanker truck was responding to a reported minor structure fire at Lehigh Cement Company in the 500 block of Evansville Road.

The fire truck was traveling

west on Pleasant Hill Road, approached the intersecti­on with Route 222 and was struck by a northbound tractor-trailer shortly after 12:30 p.m.

The intersecti­on was closed for about two hours while authoritie­s investigat­ed the crash.

The investigat­ion is ongoing.
