Memorial Day parade to be held
The Fleetwood Memorial Day parade, canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be held on May 31, Horace M. Kieffer American Legion Post 625 announced.
The parade will begin after the American Legion
Honor Guard’s 9 a.m. ceremony at Fleetwood Cemetery, North Laurel and East Main streets.
Leaving the cemetery, the parade will proceed west on Main Street to St. Paul’s Union Cemetery, located just outside the borough, for another brief ceremony.
The line of march then heads to Fleetwood Community Park on West Main
Street for the main service, estimated to begin at about 10 a.m.
Marine Corps First Sgt. Barry Frain will be the guest speaker at the service in the park. The Rev. John Folk, pastor of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Fleetwood, will offer ceremonial prayers.
The Fleetwood High School marching band will participate in the ceremonies.
Should the parade be canceled because of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, it will be announced on WEEU-AM radio at 8:30 a.m.
If there is a parade cancellation, the honor guard ceremonies will still be held at the cemeteries.
Organizers encourage parade participants and spectators to practice proper social distancing and wear protective gear whenever necessary.
