4 Berks grads on travel roster

-

Four former Berks County field hockey standouts have been named to the travel roster for the continuation of the 202021 FIH Hockey Pro League season.

Former Twin Valley teammates Ashley Hoffman and Kelee Lepage have been named to the 25-player U.S. Women’s National Team travel squad along with Hamburg grad Karlie Heistand and Boyertown grad Ali Campbell.

After 438 days of not playing a game due to the coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. Women’s National Team will play Belgium in two games at Antwerp on May 15-16.

The team will then head to London for a twogame series against Great Britain May 22-23.

Team USA, under the guidance of head coach Anthony Farry, returned to organized training on March 22 in Conshohocken after more than a year of individual and virtual training due to the pandemic.

Hoffman, who has played in 73 international games, is one of the veterans of a young squad looking to rebuild after failing to qualify for the Olympics that will be held this year in Tokyo.

Hoffman made her international debut in March 2017. She helped the University of North Carolina win two NCAA titles and was voted the 2018 national Honda Sport Award Winner for field hockey and the Atlantic Coast Conference Female Athlete of the Year.

Lepage and Heistand each have played in four international games after joining the team in January 2020.

Lepage was a teammate of Hoffman’s at Twin Valley and helped the Raiders win the PIAA Class 2A championship in 2015. She played college field hockey at Maryland.

Heistand played her college field hockey at Connecticut and helped the Huskies win the 2017 NCAA championship.

Campbell, who played at Maryland, had just rejoined the national team in January 2020 prior to the shutdown. She retired in 2017 and later played for the U.S. Indoor National Team.

She has played in 37 international competitions.
