Simpsons to defend title at Kaercher Creek Bass Tournament
Last year’s husband and wife winning team, Kevin and Amber Simpson, will attempt to make it two wins in a row at the 4th annual Friends Of Kaercher Creek Bass Tournament.
The event is slated for June 18 on the 31-acre impoundment east of Hamburg, in Windsor Township. A full field of 16 boats is once again expected as teams attempt to outduel each other for first place honors which include trophies marking the 50th anniversary of the dedication of Kaercher Creek.
No individual or team has repeated as champion in the young history of the event.
Tim Mazaika, founder of the Friends Of Kaercher Creek volunteer group, reports there have been entrants from as far away as
Berwick who’ve made their way to one of the most fun bass tournaments around.
“We’re a small tournament compared to others,” Mazaika said, “so we try to make our day different, fun and memorable for everyone involved.”
At first light, arriving anglers are greeted with coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Bottled water and snacks are made available to take on their boats and they’ll be greeted with a shore lunch after the competition.
“We’re probably the only tournament around that has a shore lunch waiting for competitors and certainly the only one with shrimp on the menu,” Mazaika said. “It’s just a little extra thing we do to thank participants for supporting the event and Friends Of Kaercher Creek.”
Following the National Anthem, teams will be dispatched in intervals, based on the day they paid the entrants fee of $100. Boats will seek out a position on the lake to begin fishing when the horn blasts at 7 a.m. and are due back at noon for weigh-in.
With Kaercher being a big bass lake, all keepers must measure at least 15 inches. The public is invited for the weigh-in at noon.
Prizes for the top three teams will be awarded after judges compile the stats. There will also be a lunker award for biggest large or smallmouth bass caught. In addition, the ‘David Doll and Edward Jones Catch of the Day Award’ will go to the individual with a bass closest to 2 pounds 3 ounces. The 2-3 represents the number of years Edward Jones has been serving the investment community from its Hamburg office.
With few spots remaining, any team interested in participating in the event can contact Friends Of Kaercher Creek through their Facebook page.
