-

Pierce Mason tied school single-game records with 292 rushing yards and four touchdowns to lead Hamburg to a 54-34 win over Eastern York in a nonleague football game Friday at Hamburg.

Mason, a senior who had 19 carries, scored on a 51-yard run on the first play from scrimmage. He also had scoring runs of 45 yards, 12 yards and 37 yards, all in the fourth quarter. He also had an 85-yard TD run called back due to a penalty.

He tied the rushing mark set by Bryan Wagner in 1996.

The Hawks (3-0) took a 1412 lead on a 78-yard interception return by Derek Ruiz.

After the Golden Knights (1-2) retook the lead 2014 on a 70-yard pass play, Hamburg scored the next 20 points to go up 34-20 at halftime.

Ruiz scored on a 39-yard run, Cohen Correll scored on a 20-yard pass from Xander Menapace, and Alex Bentz scored on a 25-yard pass from Menapace.

Levi Ayala scored four seconds into the fourth quarter on a 3-yard run for Eastern York, which got within 34-28 on the twopoint conversion.

Mason answered with his 45-yard run with 10:44 left and his 12-yard run with 5:12 left.

Ruiz had 67 yards rushing on five carries.

Menapace finished 7-for16 passing for 103 yards and two touchdowns. A 75-yard scoring pass to Bentz also was negated by a penalty.

The game with Eastern York was only scheduled on Wednesday after the Hawks’ original opponent, Fairfield, informed Hamburg officials it did not have enough healthy players.

The Hawks were coming off a 75-21 win over Warrior Run in which they set a school single-game record for points.

It’s the second straight season that Hamburg has opened 3-0.

It will play at AnnvilleCleona in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 5 opener in Week 4.
