READING >> Genesius Theatre presents the musical “Avenue Q” on stage from Oct. 7-16, which won three Tony Awards in 2004 for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book of a Musical.

The show is set on a street in New York City where people and puppets live as neighbors and deal with some of life’s most thorny issues: romance, sex, money, career, rent and other matters unmentionable.

This funny and irreverent comedy conveys life’s tough lessons through the trials and tribulations of Princeton, a brighteyed college graduate, who is anxious to discover his purpose in life; but first, he must find an apartment and a job, with no work experience — just like the other characters living on Avenue Q. Join Princeton along with these crazy puppets for this toetapping, hilarious and often moving musical. Due to adult situations, like full-puppet nudity, Avenue Q may be inappropriate for children under age 15. The show is rated PG -13 for adult situations. The production could use haze, fog and strobe light effects.

“Avenue Q” is directed by long-time local actor and director Becka Malanios, Genesius production manager. The show is produced by Genesius artistic director LJ Fecho, music directed and conducted by Kevin Cooper, choreographed by Jennifer Parker Scott, scenic and lighting design is by Zack Spadaccia, sound design by Albert Garcia, and stage managed by Lorna Graham. The production is sponsored by Sweet Street Desserts.

The Genesius cast of musical theater comedians includes Gabrielle Lewis as Kate Monster, Jonathan Erkert as Princeton, Jack Haggerty as Nicky, Collin T. Bollinger as Rod, Strat Yost as Trekkie Monster, Meredith Stone as Lucy, Andrea Keck and Danielle Pflum as Bad Idea Bears, Beatrice Bayberry as Mrs. T, Corey Wrage as Newcomer. Kevin Adams as Brian, Cecilia Cooper as Christmas Eve, and Yvonne Newton as Gary Coleman.

Avenue Q has not been authorized or approved by the Jim Henson Company or Sesame Workshop, which has no responsibility for its content.

The show opens Oct. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and continues Oct. 12 to 15 at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday matinee shows on Oct. 9 and 16 at 3 p.m. Tickets range from $17.50 to $33. For tickets and additional information, visit www. genesiusdifference.org.

The DoubleTree by Hilton and Genesius shuttle program is not available for “Avenue Q” due to circumstances beyond the control of the theater. Genesius thanks DoubleTree for its support and hopes that this program will be available again in the future.

If the main parking lot for a performance is full, ask the parking attendant for a parking pass to the theater’s Walnut and Moss Street lot for overflow parking. There is also street parking.
