Reading Choral Society to perform ‘Handel’s Messiah’ on Dec. 4
BOYERTOWN >> St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church will sponsor the Reading Choral Society in a performance of “Handel’s Messiah,” under the direction of Music Director Dr. Graham Bier.
The Reading Choral Society will be accompanied by a 19-piece orchestra and the 45-member Boyertown Senior High School Select Choir for the Dec. 4 performance.
This will be at least the 66th time the Reading Choral Society has performed the Christmas portion of “Handel’s Messiah.” By its records, the Reading Choral Society first sang the Messiah choruses in December 1897.
The audience will be invited to sing along to the Hallelujah chorus only.
Founded in 1875, the Reading Choral Society has a long and proud tradition of presenting vocal music, particularly symphonic choir masterworks, but also exploring and interpreting other genres. Under the energetic and nurturing leadership of Dr. Bier, the 12th music director, the Reading Choral Society seeks to continue to pursue its mission to perform, foster and advance choral music with a balance between honoring its heritage and looking to the future.
Its educational programs now encompass regular performances with invited high school and college choirs as with the Boyertown Area Senior High School choir joining the Reading Choral Society in the Dec. 4 performance at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave.
Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and students are $10. Tickets may be ordered online for pickup at the performance through readingchoral.org and through St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at 610369-1024 or stjohnsboyertown.org. Other churches in the Boyertown Area School District are also being invited to have tickets available for purchase.
