ART IN FULL BLOOM
With a wealth of art o erings on the North Shore, I can always satisfy my culture cravings. From the world class Peabody Essex Museum in Salem to the breathtaking Shalin Lui concert hall in Rockport to myriad art associations around the region, art abounds everywhere you look. One of my favorite museums to visit is Hammond Castle. Built in the 1920s by inventor John Hays Hammond Jr., the castle is in the medieval style and incorporates many 16th-century architectural elements that Hammond collected from his travels to Europe.
is month, the museum will exhibit more than 60 pieces by early 20th-century Annisquam artist Eric Pape. See page 52 for more details.
We also highlight the inspiring work of the Essex County Community Foundation (ECCF), which is celebrating 25 years this year. The goal of this organization is to improve the quality of life throughout Essex County including a richer arts community for all. We feature just some of the arts organizations the ECCF supports. See the story on page 88.
Speaking of arts organizations, the North Shore has several arts associations offering rotating galleries, exhibitions, public art, and education. We include three well established arts associations: Marblehead, Newburyport, and Rockport. From oil ocean scenics on canvas to muraled brick walls, there is something for everyone’s aesthetic.
But you don’t have to be a professional artist to get your creative juices flowing. The North Shore is chock-full of art and creative classes—from glass blowing to pottery to chocolate making to cake decorating, there is truly something for everyone. Turn to page 74 to see what piques your creative side.
We hope this issue tempts you to visit the art that surrounds us in our community.
Happy Spring!
