Jan. 6, 1912 One of the most successful entertainments given in the Railroad Y.M.C.A. in several months was the “Get-together-social” held last evening. One of the features was the vocal and instrumental program. Besides parlor games, a number of interesting contests were engaged in, including a sack race, potato race, shoe race, egg race, floating apple, swinging apple, step it-off, blindfold- drawing contest, chewing the string and nose measuring. A large crowd was present. 50 YEARS AGO Jan. 6, 1962 At least one state board member has decided to rid himself of a legal cloud before his case became a court issue. He is Hubert L. Ferguson, an official of the Conway Printing Co., who was serving an interim term on the State Board of Education. He formally handed his resignation to Gov. Faubus yesterday. The threat which caused Ferguson to act was the ruling on Thursday by Pulaski Chancellor Murray O. Reed that such board members who did business with the state are in violation of the constitution. 25 YEARS AGO Jan. 6, 1987 Patches of ice on interstate overpasses and bridges left over from Saturday’s record snowfall played havoc with unsuspecting rushhour motorists Monday morning. The ice caused at least 20 accidents on area interstates, including a 13vehicle pileup on Interstate 40 near the Lakewood Exit that critically injured two people. 10 YEARS AGO Jan. 6, 2002 ROGERS — Finding a new administrator is not the highest priority at the Benton County School of the Arts at present. Instead, the charter school is focusing on meeting state Department of Education deadlines to have its special-education program in place, school officials said. The school is on probation until it shows evidence it’s in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and with civil rights responsibilities.
