Bears, Goodwin win on ‘off night’

- AUSTIN EMERSON

PARAGOULD — Sylvan Hills’ Archie Goodwin didn’t have his best game Wednesday, just one that was good enough.

The Kentucky signee scored 24 points to help lead the Bears to a 60-43 victory over Nettleton in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament at Greene County Tech.

Goodwin scored as many points as the Raiders in the first half (13), but he hit only 10 of 26 shots from the field and 3 of 11 three-pointers.

“I thought Archie’s game was sort of the same as the rest of the guys had. That is just an adjustment period coming into the state tournament,” Sylvan Hills Coach Kevin Davis said. “But he gets to the rim and gets his shots off and knocked down some threes, so for an off night for him ... that’s what I thought it was.”

Nettleton (15-12) scored the game’s first two points, but it proved to be the Raiders’ only lead. Sylvan Hills
